Collaboration and Community

Projects

Collaborative Ethnography

In addition to collaborative efforts on my research with musical instrument makers, I have worked to develop and sustain collaborative ethnographic projects in Southeast Ohio through the Ohio Field School Program at The Ohio State University. Working with community partners, we have sought to developed structures to explore changing relationships to place in the former coal mining region.

Community Engagement

Community engagement is a cornerstone of my research, teaching, and outreach practices. Working with community organizations and individuals, I have co-produced exhibits, events, and meetings that bring people together to address central concerns through creative practice. From adapting travel exhibits to local community partners with the Sikh Heritage Project to building bridges of experience across Appalachian Ohio with the Sharing Visions project, I find my scholarship is at its best when in conversation with local partners.
